Thinking about estate planning can be daunting. But we at Donna Craft Cain PC serve Illinois and Wisconsin residents to plan for their future, in a way that is simple, clear, and future-focused. We are here to help.
Why Estate Planning Is Important
Estate planning isn't just about distributing your assets after your death. It's about ensuring that your wishes are respected, protecting your loved ones from unnecessary costs and delays, and giving yourself peace of mind.
Regardless of your age, health or wealth, everyone can benefit from estate planning. Without a plan, your estate may go through probate—a costly and time-consuming court process. Worse, if you die intestate (without a will), the state decides who gets your assets, which may not align with your wishes.

LET'S CHATDocuments That May Be Included In An Estate Plan
Your estate plan might include several documents. Each document serves a different purpose and should be tailored to your needs.
There are 5 essential documents included in most Estate plans:
Living Will – Declaration stating that you do not want to be kept on life support
Health Care Power of Attorney – you give power to your agent to make health care decisions for you if you unable to do so
Durable Power of Attorney for Property- you give power to your agent to make financial decisions for you if you are unable to do so
Trust – The Trust agreement allows you to provide for transfer of your assets to your beneficiaries without having to go through probate.
Will – A will is a testamentary document that provides for how your would like your estate to pass to your beneficiaries upon your death. A Will does not avoid probate but a will saves some costs of probate and states your desires.
